The Isle of Wight Festival at 50
Updated: Jul 2, 2020

It is 50 years since the very first Isle of Wight music festival, when the headliners were Jefferson Airplane and other bands included Arthur Brown, The Pretty Things, Plastic Penny, Smile, Tyrannosaurus Rex and Fairport Convention. One of these original bands, The Pretty Things, also performed at the 50th anniversary festival in June. This year's headline acts were Kasabian, Depeche Mode, Liam Gallagher and The Killers. All outstanding but I particularly enjoyed dancing to Nile Rodgers and Chic, singing along with Van Morrison, watching Suzanne Vega and a new band to me, Gypsyfingers.

The weather was perfect, wellies were definitely not required! There were plenty of venues around the Newport site to listen to the music, plus lots of other entertainment from food and drink to fairground rides and life-size Lego superheroes!
